Kool-It Celebrates 40 Years in Business!

2012 is a big year for Kool-It – it’s our 40th Birthday!

Roy and Mary Dearden started the company in 1972 (our original name was Salford Refrigeration).

Since then we’ve gone on from being a two person operation with a shop in the heart of Salford to a staff of 14 with our own industrial unit in the heart of Manchester’s industrial district – Trafford Park!

It all goes to show that we’re here for the long term – serving our customers, new and old, with experience money can’t buy!

Kool-It can help with all your air conditioning and refrigeration needs. For customers who prefer their electrical and mechanical services to be wrapped up in one contract we have our own preferred partners who can provide any electrical, mechanical and building services that may be required.

Mitsubishi Electric’s New M Series Multi Split-Systems

Perfect for the home or commercial environment – Mitsubishi’s legendary multi system is now even better!

The MXZ multi-split heat pump systems allow up to eight individually controlled indoor units to be connected directly to a single outdoor unit and are available between 5.2 and 15.5kW in size.

The indoor units can be wall mounted, ceiling cassette, ducted, floor or ceiling mounted types and can be selected from both our M Series and Mr Slim ranges. This wide choice allows different types of indoor units at different capacities to be used on the same system, enabling the ideal unit type and size to be specified for each individual room or location.

By installing a system in this way installation space, costs and time are all significantly reduced. Indoor units may then also be added within the capacity of the system as future requirements change, making the MXZ extremely flexible.

Kool-Riders get on their bikes for the 2011 Manchester to Blackpool Ride!

Staff of Kool-It together with a group of friends joined over 8000 bike riders on the 2011 Manchester to Blackpool bike ride.

The bike ride was in aid of The Christie Charitable Fund. Their charity raises money to fund projects at The Christie which are outside the scope of the NHS. Last year they raised nearly £12 million which funded a whole range of things, including a new radiopharmacy, to communications skills training for nursing staff, a new state-of-the-art surgical robot, groundbreaking cancer research and our wig service (to name but a few).

Donations from friends, family, well wishers and customers from everyone of the team totaled nearly £3,000 – so all in all an excellent result which we hope will go some way to helping this great cause!

First past the finish line (from the gents) were Andy Smith, Jason Cordwell and Mark Fleet who rode as a trio! Much respect goes out to Andy Smith who kept up with (and passed many – so I’m told) the road race bikes – on his mountain bike complete with off road knobbly tyres! Now that’s determination!

First past the finish line (from the ladies) was Stephanie Beresford who managed to arrive an hour or so before the other ladies! Looks like that new bike was a great investment!

See the Manchester Evening News article for more details.

Congratulations to everyone who took part and good luck for next year!

The bleary eyed (well it was 6am) Kool-Riders team comprised of (from Left to Right):

Mark Fleet, Karl Hennessey, Louise Hennessey, Jason Cordwell, Clare Smith, Stephanie Beresford, Andrew Beresford, Lynne Martin, Andy Smith and Carla Stark.

Kool-It Services Achieve Full F-Gas Certification

We are proud to announce that all of our engineers have now achieved the new industry standard qualification City & Guilds 2079 Category 1. As such Kool-It has been awarded full F-Gas Certification from the F-Gas regulatory board ‘Refcom’.

FGas Cert

This proves that Kool-It is committed to ensuring it’s engineers are ahead of the competition by achieving full certification by the 4th July 2011 deadline.

The Refcom Register of Companies Competent to Handle Refrigerants was set up in 1994 in response to atmospheric damage caused by certain refrigerant gases.

Since then the Register has evolved to cover fluorinated refrigerant gases which if released to atmosphere have a global warming potential significantly higher than CO2.

In June 2009, Refcom Certification Ltd was appointed by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to operate a Certification Body under the stationary equipment provisions of the Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases Regulations 2009 No 261. Subsequently, Refcom was also appointed by the Department of Environment in Northern Ireland under separate NI Regulations.

Mitsubishi Electric Announce New Controller (PAR-30MAA)

Mitsubishi Electric’s new, award-winning air conditioning controller will cut energy costs even more by ensuring that systems are always optimally adjusted to the needs of the building, Mitsubishi Electric’s latest controller will help minimise costs.

Mitsubishi Electric offers a full range of air conditioning Intelligent Control systems and controllers. The latest addition to their controller line-up is the PAR-30MAA, which will be available from the beginning of 2011 and will be compatible with their split-type air conditioners and the City Multi system. And it is no ordinary product. In fact, the PAR-30MAA’s has won Japan’s Design Award.

PAR30MAA

The PAR-30MAA offers all standard functions, as well as a range of new functions, designed to provide users with even higher levels of control, so that the system is always optimally adjusted to the needs of the building.

New functions include Energy Saving with Mr. Slim Equipment which limits the outdoor capacity during a preset time, and Silent Mode on Mr. Slim Equipment which activates the Silent Mode on the Outdoor Unit. The controller also includes an auto-return-to-setpoint feature which resets the setpoint automatically after a set period of time (perfect for users that like to play around with the controller!)

Mitsubishi Electric’s Updated Lossnay (HRV) Range

The new heat recovery fresh air ventilator from Mitsubishi Electric not only maintains the ideal temperature, but keeps the air fresh too.

The new DC Lossnay is a highly efficient and effective choice for commercial offices and schools, which are often highly insulated and air tight. By combining air conditioning with CO2 removal, the DC Lossnay can maintain the required temperature and keep the air fresh, with minimal heat loss.

The result is a reduction of up to 30% on initial capital costs of heating and cooling.

The low noise levels of the DC Lossnay are also an advantage, particularly in school classrooms. The commonly accepted standard for classroom noise level is NR30/NR35, and the DC Lossnay achieves NR30 at distances as near as 1m to the duct.

With its CO2 monitoring and control option, the DC Lossnay can change its fan speed to suit CO2 levels, and can be linked with a PIR sensor or switch. There is also a bypass mode which enables the unit to provide free cooling at many times throughout the year.

Forthcoming ECA Changes

From 4th August 2009, there will be major changes to ECA (Enhanced Capital Allowance)…

Many units are disappearing from the ECA list of qualifying products and VRV combinations. The new higher requirements will mean as much as 80% of heat pump units on sale in the UK market will not qualify for the ECA scheme.

Daikin will, in the main, remain unaffected by the changes to the current ECA regulations:

Hi-CoP VRVIII Heat Recovery – 100% of range still qualifies
Hi-CoP VRVIII 2-pipe – 100% of range still qualifies
VRVIII small footprint – 50% of range still qualifies
Split and Sky Air – more than 35% of range still qualifies

Energy Labels

The new levels equate to energy label A:A for all Split and Sky Air combinations.
The new levels for VRV(F) are:CoP 3.70 and EER 3.30
(The old levels for VRV(F) were:CoP 3.40 and EER 3.00 – energy label B:B)

VRV(F) is generally so efficient that minimum CoP and EER levels, required for ECA qualification, are higher than for other product types. Only the most efficient 20 – 25% of products in each category are listed.

Don’t miss out

Products currently on the ECA list, which will not meet the new criteria, will continue to qualify only until the change comes into effect on 4th August 2009.

Product Category from 4/8/09
Heating Mode (CoP)
from 4/8/09
Cooling Mode (EER)
1. Air Source: single split (non VRF) heat pumps >3.60 >3.20
2. Air Source: dual split (non VRF) heat pumps >3.60 >3.20
3. Air Source: multi split (non VRF) heat pumps >3.60 >3.20
4. Air Source: split or multi split variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heat pumps >3.70 >3.30
